20 May 2015 – Teleinformatica e Sistemi (TeS) has announced the first commercial orders for Janus, the new mobile satellite antenna technology for mobile applications that it developed with the support of ARTES.

15 May 2015 – The European Defence Agency (EDA) and the European Space Agency (ESA) announce a new project to support the development of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) flying in non-segregated airspace.

Inmarsat transfers BGAN services to Alphasat

27 March 2015 – UK satcoms operator Inmarsat has transferred its Broadband Global Area Network services to Alphasat, the advanced telecommunications satellite developed in a partnership between Inmarsat and ESA. Inmarsat will be using Alphasat to provide BGAN-based safety services across Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Atlas delivers

16 March 2015 – Three key components of Eutelsat' s forthcoming EUTELSAT 8 West B satellite will be embarking on their first mission into space thanks to Atlas, a recent extension of ARTES 3-4 in which ESA provides assistance in obtaining first flight opportunities for new products.

High Efficiency Video Encoding for 4K Satellite Distribution
18 May 2015
The project aims to develop the key technologies for UHD satellite broadcasting systems and services. The targeted developments include UHD capable HEVC encoder and decoder for satellite broadcast delivery capable also for contribution and digital cinema event streaming, at down to 50% of H264 rates. The project covers also the development of new transport interface for HEVC VoD.
PBC Cooling
13 May 2015
The “PCB cooling” project aimed at demonstrating the use of Loop Heat Pipe Technology for electronic card cooling. A multi-stage approach has been implemented to be able to cool a primary dissipative zone as well as additional zones on the PCB. It demonstrated the interest of such approach on a breadboard.
Beamsat Sat3Play B2X

The scope of the Beamsat Sat3Play B2X project is to perform the detailed design and the development of the next release of the second generation Sat3Play system. The existing Sat3Play system is an affordable 2 Way Satellite Broadband System that has been designed for IP based service providers, wanting to offer voice, data and television services in areas where no terrestrial broadband connection is available and at a competitive price. In the new release, features and improvements are developed to strengthen the product for B2C services. This targets full support of Ka satellites with the new Ka ODU, increased throughput and efficiency of system and terminals and support of IPv6. In addition, new features are developed to target the B2B market. These include VRF support on the system, the new mid-range MDM3x00 IPmodem hardware and the terminal portfolio for MDM3x00.
EuroSMG Phase 2

The EuroSMG is an innovative integrated stepper motor gearbox, designed for use in mechanisms for the GEO Telecom satellite market. The project consists of the design, manufacture and validation of a European ITAR free solution, designed to meet ECSS requirements.

Cobham’s Adhoc Mesh Radio Over Satellite System (CAMROSS) can provide a team of users with adhoc communications, supporting voice, data and tracking, from a remote location with no existing terrestrial communications. Employing satellite communications it can be taken anywhere and setup in minutes. This low cost system is designed for first responders, security forces and professional applications.
