Tracking marine animals with satcoms

2 October 2015 – Satellite monitoring of wildlife has become a critical tool for environmental research purposes. Through the ARTES programme, ESA has been supporting the development and testing of a new low-cost wildlife tag that uses satcoms technology.

The Vega launcher for telecoms

30 September 2015 – Two ARTES-supported studies of ESA's Vega rocket provide the telecommunications satellite industry with a strategic roadmap for future developments in the highly competetive global launcher market.


Neosat moves into high gear

15 September 2015 – ESA and Thales Alenia Space have signed a contract for the full development and qualification of a new line of satellite platforms called Spacebus Neo. The agreement marks the next phase of the ARTES 14 Neosat programme.

Tackling VSAT interference

10 September 2015 – Satellite operators and service providers are enthusiastic about a novel solution for mitigating interference from VSAT terminals that was developed with the support of ESA under ARTES 5.2.

New LCAMP Technologies
13 October 2015
In order to reduce equipment cost a Breadboard LCAMP based on new and innovative technologies and equipment tuning is to be developed. Herby development activities are focused on three main issues: 1) Mixed Signal ASIC to achieve maximum integration of electrical components 2) LTCC technology including a cost- and time-minimized assembly process 3) Fully automated equipment tuning
Photonic Transceiver for Secure Space Communications

This project focused on the design, development and testing of a photonic transceiver elegant breadboard which is capable of providing absolute security to cryptographic quantum key distribution (QKD) for secure space communications. In addition, its compatibility with space environment was taken also into consideration in order to establish the operational limits and to identify any design or technological weaknesses for future space applications.
Screw-less Joining and Flange-less Telecommunication Hardware

Future satellite payloads are expected to become more complex, hosting large amounts of equipment and associated R.F. waveguide harnesses. To reduce overall complexity, mass, volume and Assembly Integration Test (AIT) time, non-conventional manufacturing and joining technologies are necessary. Following a review of potential technologies, this project is focusing on developing lightweight R.F. demonstrators employing adhesives and laser welding.
Signalhorn Customer Portal

Signalhorn is developing a web based customer portal to enable its customers to view and manage all aspects of their relationship with Signalhorn. It will provide an interface to the systems that Signalhorn uses to manage its customers’ accounts, networks and services. The portal will provide Signalhorn with a value-added service and a key differentiator. Key features include: access to near-real-time network performance and availability information; reporting of historical network status in standard formats; a trouble-ticketing system through which faults can be handled through to resolution; key information on networks, service, supplier contacts, SLAs and billing all in one place.
