Description
The implementation of activity 1B.068 (Disruptive technologies for sub-systems of GEO telecommunication satellite platforms) under ARTES 1, has led to the conclusion that there is a need for the development of continuous monitoring of the technologies that are incurrent development, either in Europe or throughout the world. This is even truer when it comes to the detection of advanced materials that could lead to disruption or could play a dominant role in the telecommunication sector. The objective of this activity shall thus lie in the design of a scanning and monitoring system of technologies relevant to telecommunications space segment (platforms & payloads), as well as in the field of satellite Assembly, Integration and Test process (AIT) to streamline space technology funding within Europe according the latest developments and demand of the telecommunication European space sector. This activity shall focus on the identification, analysis and road mapping of advanced materials and manufacturing processes, with the potential for disruption to dominant technologies in the telecommunication sector. The project shall implement a scan of key research institutesand component suppliers working both in and outside of the EU. The purpose of this scan will be three-fold; ·Assess the state-of-the-art of the selected advanced materials and manufacturing processes ·Spur innovation by forcing key-player to think up of new application enables by advanced materials ·Assess the impact on telecommunication satellites designs
