AUGMENTED REALITY FOR TELECOM SPACECRAFT AIT (ARTES 5.1 4A.058)

Description

The objective of this activity is to assess the suitability of augmented reality for telecom spacecraft assembly, integration and testing.

Targeted Improvements:

Increase the quality of satellite assembly, integration and test and decrease production and testing time and costs.

Description:

The augmented reality is nowadays used in aeronautics product lines and maintenance in direct connection with the CAD system. In the space industry, especially in (semi-) series production for telecom platforms and constellations, the introduction of augmented reality techniques would be beneficial not only for complex steps in the production but for quality assurance and remote expert support as well.
A market survey on existing solutions, use cases and best practices in the aeronautics industry shall be the starting point to address the following questions:

  • How to improve the efficiency of technicians and engineers in complex and potentially stressful situations?
  • How to use the information technology solutions in place so that relevant information can be retrieved instantly for production operations?
  • How to track operations seamlessly and always have an up to date overview of the status of my production lines, stock and as-build documentation?
  • How to support the quality and configuration control of operations performed throughout the production?

The activity shall conclude with the functional demonstration of a selected use case.
