HIGH PRESSURE SOLENOID VALVE FOR HELIUM AND XENON PRESSURE REGULATOR APPLICATIONS (PRIORITY 2) (ARTES 5.1 4B.106)

Description

Priority 2: Priority 2 activities will only be initiated on the explicit request of at least one delegation.

Develop a new all European high pressure solenoid valve for application in Helium and Xenon pressure regulator units.

Targeted Improvements:

20% cost reduction cf. US components.

Development of electronic bang-bang pressure regulator units in Europe has a strong reliance on the use of US solenoid valve components (SGEO PSA, A5.1 - Alternative Bi-propellant Regulator). These US valves are subject to ITAR restrictions which prevent visibility of the valve design, and consequently the valve performance limits, to European pressure regulator developers. The development of an all European valve component would allow pressure regulator developers to have an early input into the design requirements for this critical component, allowing optimisation of the pressure regulator design performance, while also allowing an fully ITAR-free pressure regulator to be developed.

The proposed activity would build on existing valve competences in European suppliers, with the aim to develop a cost effective, high performance high pressure valve to Engineering model status.

Work logic would be:

  1. Requirements definition.
  2. Concept definition and breadboarding.
  3. Engineering model design, manufacture and test.
  4. Roadmapping to valve commercialisation.
