ABSM Presentations now online

Held on 30 March at ESA/ESTEC in Noordwijk the Netherlands, the workshop offered six detailed presentations and hardware demonstrations of ongoing and completed activities funded by ESA in the domain of advanced satellite broadband digital modems, as well as presentations on innovative demodulations and decoding techniques.

Companies present at the workshop included: Alcatel Alenia Space, Politecnico di Torino and Space Engineering from Italy, Advantech from Germany, TurboConcept from France and Indra from Spain.

Alberto Ginesi, Senior Communications Systems Engineer for ESA and host of the workshop, stated afterwards: "The 2nd edition of the ABSM workshop has once again shown that European and Canadian industries are at the forefront of know-how in advanced modem design technology.

"The tremendous expertise shown by the companies and universities who have presented their achievements here cover both state-of-the-art modem algorithm design as well as the most sophisticated modem prototyping technology. These projects have been supported through ESA's own ARTES and TRP programmes."

"The concepts and hardware developed within these ESA projects are being directly applied to either commercial or scientific products which show the strategic relevance of ESA's vision within the space technology arena."

"ESA's role is to act as a catalyst to promote and foster innovative technical solutions and thereby serve future needs of commercial and scientific programmes. Events such as the ABSM Workshop are instrumental in effectively disseminating know-how and increasing momentum within the European and Canadian industry."
