First workshop on satellite terminals organised in the UK

On 3 June 2015, the first satellite terminals workshop jointly organised by Innovate UK, Catapult Satellite Applications, the Knowledge Transfer Network and ESA took place at the Digital Catapult centre in London. The event was attended by some 100 participants, reflecting the high interest in the initiative.

This workshop brought together developers and manufacturers of satellite terminals, satellite operators and representatives of the satcom user community for an interactive discussion about the present and future of the satellite terminals industry.

Paul Febvre, Chief Technology Officer at the Satellite Applications Catapult, led the discussion with representatives from satellite operators and manufacturers, including  Javier Barañano (Inmarsat), Stewart Sanders (O3B), Ferdinando Tiezzi (Viasat CH), and Geert Adams (Newtec).

ESA had a significant participation in this event, with presentations given by Domenico Mignolo, Head of the Ground Segment Technologies and Products Section presenting ARTES 3-4 and 5, and Philip Haines, Head of Telecom Business Development, presenting ARTES 33.

The event confirmed the benefits of establishing a European Terminals Working Group where synergies between involved stakeholders can be fully exploited and enable future opportunities for satcoms.
