The European Space Agency is preparing a program proposal for Phase 2 of the Iris Programme to be presented at the ESA Ministerial Conference in November 2008.

The ESA Iris Programme is supporting the promotion of satellite communications for air/ground exchange between aircraft and Air Traffic Control Centres as well as safety-of-life communications between pilots and Airline Operational Centres.
Activities are carried out in close relation with the existing framework of ATM in Europe, namely the Single European Sky Air Traffic Management Research (SESAR) programme, launched in 2006 by the European Community and EUROCONTROL.
