REMSAT Project Teams to give Final Presentation

The objectives of REMSAT - Real-time Emergency Management via SATellite - Fire and Medical, from the Canadian company Telesat were to provide a cost effective end-to-end system capable of providing a wide range of integrated services (Telecom, Positioning, Earth Observation Imagery) for emergency management during an emergency incident.

The current design has been extensively validated for wildfires control operations in Canada and is being adapted to other emergency domains or security operations (e.g. flood). The REMSAT system is being designed to be modular in nature, for adequate scaling of the architecture to the size of the emergency or incident.

The objectives of REMFIRESAT Real-time Emergency Management of forest FIRE's via SATellite with INSA as Prime Contractor were to demonstrate the usefulness of satellite technologies, such as GPS positioning, remote Earth observation and voice/data communications, in order to help in the management of large forest fires.

In fact, prevention, management and damage assessment are still one of the most important problems in European countries, especially for the ones belonging to the Mediterranean area. The proposed strategy of the study is based upon a common infrastructure built on existing satellite technology.
