Workshop: Demonstrating applications using HYLAS 1 satellite

Registrations are now CLOSED. People who are not registered but are still planning to attend will NOT be allowed in.

HYLAS 1 is an innovative mission put together in a new way: it is ESA’s first public–private partnership resulting in a full satellite system. UK-based Avanti has contributed most of the mission budget and will use the satellite to deliver broadband services to customers. ESA’s involvement focuses on HYLAS 1's payload technology. In March 2011 the satellite successfully finished in-orbit testing and entered service.

Application projects should develop and then trial a satellite-based application for an extended period with real users in order to gather feedback and refine the product before commercial launch. Examples of projects are listed in the invitation document located in the column to the right.

During the workshop, participants will gain a clear understanding of the capabilities of the satellite, including Avanti’s ground segment, and the conditions of use for the capacity provided. ESA will explain the process on how to submit proposals and the timing for the next steps. There will also be a chance to get “hands-on experience” with a Ka-band VSAT terminal as well as have a one to one discussion about your project ideas. Click here to view the agenda.

For registration, email thomas.bouvet@esa.int by 30 September 2011.
