INTEGRATED SOLAR PANEL ANTENNA ARRAYS FOR MACHINE TO MACHINE (M2M) AND INTERNET OF THINGS (IOT) (ARTES AT 7B.049) RE-ISSUE 1-9733

Description

The objective if this activity is the development of a dual self- powered solar panel integrated with an array antenna for M2M and IoT applications.

Targeted Improvements:

  • Terminal size reduction between 40% and 50%;
  • Reduction of 30%-40% of cabling interfaces and structure.

Description:

M2M and IoT terminals often require being small and self-powered; this entails not only the antenna deployment but also the installation of additional solar panel for the provision of the power supply. Latest developments incubesats have demonstrated the feasibility of the integrated solar panel antenna concept using slot antennas and sparse array antenna geometries.

This activity shall leverage state-of-the-art technologies of solar-cell-integrated structures to develop and demonstrate a compact prototype self-powered antenna panel suitable for small autonomous ground terminals in Ka and/or Ku-band. The targeted full-sizesolar panel and antenna installation limits would be in the order of 50cmx50cm, and the total power needed to operate antenna including BUC and LNB should be less than 20W. The design shall identify suitable electrical interface for the power supply and communication functions.

The activity shall include verification and validation tests demonstrating performance in operational environment. Acompact, integrated terminal will enable Satcom vendors to enter this demanding market more easily.

Procurement Policy: C(2) = A relevant participation (in terms of quality and quantity) of non-primes (incl. SMEs) is required. For additional information please go to EMITS news "Industrial Policy measures for non-primes, SMEs and RD entities in ESA programmes".
