Objectives

The target of SiMPLE was the development of new services:



  • Automatic multicast Web cache content updating

  • Automatic selection and delivery of content

  • Decentralised software system for distribution of information

  • Easy and efficient method of multicasting multimedia Internet content

The advantages of the SiMPLE Software System are:



  • Tremendous saving of (satellite) bandwidth

  • One-to-many delivery of any content

  • Sophisticated filtering and selection both at server and client

  • Seamless integration into standard proxy configurations

  • Avoiding problems introduced by TCP over Satellite through two new, state-of-the-art protocols, ODC and RRMP

  • Built upon reliable IPmulticast and UDP

  • Suitable for any content distributor, e.g. ISPs or companies with many scattered sites
