Description
The objective of the project is to design, manufacture and test cost effective chipset front-end with low power consumption to foster the foreseen growing M2M/SCADA satellite market (fixed and mobile).
Targeted Improvements:
To have a cost effective chipset front-end with low power consumption to foster the foreseen growing M2M/SCADA satellite market of mobile and fixed networks for low data rate application.
To enable a new market opportunities for the ground segment equipment in large scalable M2M/SCADA networks.
Description:
M2M/SCADA networks terminals require a low power chipset front-end. As the satellite M2M/SCADA devices are often installed in remote regions, power is supplied by battery and/or solar panels. These devices will likely have a low duty cycle and be required to have a very low power consumption, which is achievable through chip integration.
To address efficiently the M2M/SCADA satellite market, the project will design, manufacture and test a complete chipset composed by a low noise receiver as well as a transmitter with low power amplification.
The packaged MMICs shall be based on European/Canadian technology to limit the industry dependence on US suppliers.
The activity will include the following tasks:
- State of the Art analysis and requirement consolidation;
- Architectural trade-off and functional block diagrams;
- First iteration of chipset design, manufacture and test;
- Second iteration of chipset design, manufacture and test;
- Validation and roadmap definition.
Procurement Policy: C(1) = Activity restricted to non-prime contractors (incl. SMEs). For additionalinformation please go to EMITS news "Industrial Policy measures for non-primes, SMEs and R&D entities in ESA programmes".
