MULTI-PURPOSE QUANTUM KEY DISTRIBUTION RECEIVER FOR OPTICAL GROUND STATIONS (ARTES 4.0 4S SPL 3D.013)

Description

Objective: the objective of the activity is the development and testing of a multi-purpose ground Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) Optical Receiver including a compact decoding set-up for secure key material generation. Key output is the standardization of interfaces a) from the telescope of the optical ground station and b) to the customer key management system.Targeted Improvements: The main target improvement of this activity is the optimisation of the interoperability of quantum key distribution systems. Description: The activity will include the following tasks - Selection and justification of the most suitable technology and design to comply with the SAGA and EuroQCI system, performance and programmatic requirements - Address the advantages and technological challenges of selected QKD protocols with respect to detectors. - Designing and building the QKD multipurpose Optical receiver prototype based on aoutcome of the trade-offs - Testing and validation of the prototype using - Test and demonstration of the QKD Optical receiver secure rate material generation using a QKD transmitter system. - Analysing the data and assessing the impact on the secure rate generation for a space to ground QKD link. - Assessment of space qualification possibility of the developed receiver including a preliminary assessment for the key age and security impacts.
