Agenda now available for Telecom Applications Workshop 2005


About 120 people are expected to attend the 'invitation only' event, which will be held in the Newton Conference Room at the ESTEC facilities in Noordwijk the Netherlands on 3 and 4 November 2005.

Eighteen presentations from ESA Telecom supported projects will be grouped along the following themes:

  • B2B/B2C
  • Disaster Relief/Emergency Management
  • Telemedicine
  • Location Based Satcom Services

Of particular note will be a presentation from Mr Fermin Alvarez Lopez of ESA Telecom on recent developments in the 'Internet to Trains' Initiative.

Additionally, Ms Andrea Dean of ESA will give a presentation on 'Intellectual Property Rights: Issues and Recommendations'.

Based on feedback from last year's workshop, ESA Telecom together with Europe Unlimited (see external links) began the 'Venture Academy'. The Venture Academy is a new way of coaching industry on how to raise capital for satellite based solutions. Mr Christian Suojanen of Europe Unlimited will present the results of the pilot session involving a pre-selected sample group of ESA Telecom projects.

Networking opportunities
Building relationships is a necessary part of any business, and satcom is no exception. The purpose of Telecom Applications Workshops is to help individuals involved in the User Segment of the Applications programme line get acquainted with each other.

Attendees learn from the experiences of fellow satcom developers and entrepreneurs, share ideas and explore potential future areas of cooperation. Past workshops have often aided participants find that long sought after third party needed to make a project team complete.

Last year's workshop (image left) was held at ESA/ESRIN in Frascati Italy. Fabrizio Aversa from the Italian company Kell said: "I have attended many TAW workshops and I can confirm that the quality is high. Not only from a technical point of view, but also among the audience. All in all it is a very good place to exchange ideas."
