Broadband on Trains workshop presentations now online

Titled 'Preparation for Internet to Trains Initiative: Broadband on Trains, Analysis of the Opportunity and Development Roadmap'- Phase 2, the invitation only workshop was held at ESA/ESTEC in Nordwijk, the Netherlands on 21 May 2007.

Mr Norbert Huebner of ESA opened the one-day event, by giving an overview of the progress to date. Afterwards, presentations from ESA representatives spoke on the current status of the ETSI and DVB-RCS standards.

The Deutsche Luft und Raumfahrt Zentrum (DLR) made presentations and discussed a wide range of topics including future applications and services for both professional and private users. These future users could make use of a range of applications from eCommerce and 3D Videoconferencing to TV applications like IPTV and HDTV, as well as Telemedicine and many more.

Among the presentations made by Ars Traffic & Transport Technology (ARS) from the Netherlands, was how railways will evolve in the coming decades and Broadband on Trains can reduce travel time, improve safety, help the environment and increase passenger comfort.

Avanti Communications from the United Kingdom led an interactive session on the status of current trials and commercial systems.
