Call for Presentations and Ideas: Workshop on Next Generation DVB-RCS

The free workshop will feature invited speakers, round table discussion and selected presentations.

Background

In connection with the 50th DVB-RCS meeting of TM-RCS and to mark the approximate 10 years since technology was selected for the first generation of DVB-RCS, a new DVB CM-RCS group has been created and commercial requirements for next generation RCS are being produced.

The DVB Project has now approved the DVB-RCS+M specification, providing support for mobile and nomadic terminals as well as enhanced support for direct terminal-to-terminal (mesh) connectivity. By mid-2007, there were more than 150 DVB-RCS systems deployed worldwide, serving more than 50,000 terminals at Ku-band, Ka-band, C-band and EHF.  DVB-RCS is today the only multi-vendor VSAT standard.

Call for Presentations and Ideas

Procedure
Interested parties are invited to suggest topics they feel should be presented as relevant for the next generation open standard for broadband satellite communications, DVB-RCS. There are many projects, lots of experience and significant amounts of research that can be of benefit for the next steps.

Format

  • Clearly state why the suggested topic is relevant, and
  • Submit a 1-page abstract to the organizers listed under contacts at the right hand side of this web page.

Focus
Focus is an idea that is ready for standardization. This means some more work and simulations may be necessary, but it should not be a ”fresh” research topic. We need to know that it has potential and preferably also what potential under what circumstances.

Presentations
Presentations can take the form of either:

  • Short introductions for panel debates – Max 3 slides,
  • Focused 15 min conference-like presentations. Max 10 slides.

A structure outlined as below should be followed:

  • What can the technology contribute to regards performance,
  • How does it link to the existing DVB-RCS and other elements of a system,
  • In what stage of readiness is it for implementation / standardization,
  • Describe briefly the technology.

The presentations will be made available to all registered participants.

Deadlines
The deadline for suggesting presenters and presentations is June 5th 2008. Selections will be communicated around June 15-20th. Presentations need to be available by July 2nd.
