ESA offers Artemis to industry in an Announcement of Opportunity - UPDATE

ESA is organising visits both to Fucino and Redu to allow the bidders to evaluate the Artemis operational environment. Please note that the visit to the Fucino facility is scheduled  for 4 February. Interested bidders are invited to provide the names and passport numbers of the personnel attending this meeting before 25 January. This information is requested in order to grant access to the site. The invitation will be confirmed once the Notice of Intent is received.

This announcement of opportunity offers, subject to approval at ESA council level, not only full ownership of Artemis, but also the rights and obligations associated to the corresponding ITU frequency filing. In return, the selected operator will implement a concrete plan that will support/generate activities benefiting the European satellite communications industry.

These activities do not have to be directly related to the exploitation of Artemis satellite. The nature of these activities is left for the bidder to define and propose.
Equipped with a suite of advanced communication payloads, ESA's Artemis satellite has scored a long series of satcom firsts and precursors to new ESA programmes like the European Data Relay System. Artemis created the first laser data link between satellites in different orbits. It was the first telecom satellite to be extensively reprogrammed in orbit, and it was the first to power its way to geostationary orbit with ion thrusters after surviving the long drift to its destination.
