DIGITAL TWIN OF A HIGH VOLTAGE MODULE FOR ELECTRONIC POWER CONDITIONERS (EPC) OR POWER PROCESSING UNITS (PPUS) (ARTES AT 4B.183)

Description

The objective of the activity is to develop a digital model of a high voltage module typically used in power processing units for electric propulsion or travelling wave tube amplifiers. This model or "digital twin" shall enable an in-depth evaluation which is today only possible by test.Targeted Improvements: Enabling a new approach to achieve innovation acceleration of high voltage module design and test, leading to:- decrease of the development effort by 50%,- reduction of testing time by 50%.Description: Nowadaysthe development of high voltage modules is very complex and time consuming, involving in-demand experts with a very high level of specialised experience, involves hazardous and complex experiments at dangerous voltage levels. Therefore, the development incrementsare typically small and the development cycles long, which slows down the innovation significantly. A digital twin has the potential to overcome this shortcoming and allow experimenting with high voltage circuits and effects in a multiphysics simulation environment which is today already state of the art for all low voltage applications and has been in use for many years. A software model ofa digital twin of a high voltage module for electronic power conditioners and power processing units will be developed. A simulation of voltage up to 12 kV Q band EPC applications or 2 kV for PPU applications should be achieved. Arcing and partial discharge simulations should be possible.
