OPTICAL GROUND STATION NETWORK TESTBED (ARTES 4.0 SL SPL 6B.128)

Description

The objective of this activity is to develop an optical ground station network testbed to which parties can connect their ground station and prototype network-related aspects for optical and quantum communications in an operational network environment. Targeted Improvements:Reduction of manual link planning and analysis effort. Testing and simulation capabilities for optical end-to-end data delivery. Description:The objective of this activity is to develop an optical ground station network testbed to which parties can connect their ground station and prototype network-related aspects for optical communications in an operational network environment. Data delivery testing and validation can only be evaluated and tested in an optical ground station network context, in which ground station and subsystem developers usually do not have access. This shall be addressed within this activity by providing a network testbed to which OGS developers can connect their system for network testing. The following specific aspects shall be covered: -Link handover between ground stations. -Link planning: e.g. weather forecast. -Method data is handled: end-to-end data delivery and on-board data erasure. -Generation of managed parameters for link planning: e.g. data rates, coding options, automated repeat queries. The testbed shall comprise the following elements: -An online platform with human-to-machine and machine-to-machine interfaces to request links, visualize the execution, and deliver the data. -Scheduling and link planning capabilities. -Overall data return optimisation capabilities. -Data delivery end-points for the data recipients. -Visualisation of the measurement and command parameters of each ground station in the network. -Capability to include simulated and real ground stations; e.g. ESA's IZN-1 optical ground station can be made available under this activity to be used as an operation ground station for network testing.
