W-BAND 100W CLASS WAVEGUIDE HIGH POWER ISOLATOR (ARTES AT 5C.517)

Description

The objective of this activity is to design, manufacture and test a 100W W-band waveguide high power isolator engineering model forfeeder link applications.Targeted Improvements: Enabling technology development for W-band feeder links not existing today in ESAMember States.Description: The usage of the spectrum available in W-band for satellite communications offers the opportunity to reduce the number of gateways in the ground segment. For such W-band feeder links, high power amplifiers (HPA) up to about 100W are needed as well as low loss compact isolators, not available today, to protect the HPA from mismatch arising from mishandling during on-ground testing and to limit failure propagation on board the spacecraft. This activity will develop and manufacture a 100W class, high power, compact and low loss (<0.3dB) W-band isolator engineering model. RF, power handling and thermal challenges due to the small size at these frequencies and the resulting high power density will be addressed. Critical functions including RF performance and high power handling capability will be tested experimentally to fully evaluate the developed concepts and technologies for space application.Procurement Policy: C(1) = Activity restricted to non-prime contractors (incl. SMEs). For additional information please go to:http://www.esa.int/About_Us/Business_with_ESA/Small_and_Medium_Sized_En….
