W-BAND HIGH POWER AMPLIFIER FOR THE GROUND SEGMENT (ARTES AT 6B.120) (ON DELEGATION REQUEST)

Description

Objective: The objective of the activity is to design, manufacture and test a W-band HPA for the ground segment. Targeted Improvements: Enabling W-band feeder uplink communications. Description: The use of W-band (71-76 GHz for downlink and 81-86 for uplink GHz) is expected to significantly increase the available bandwidth for Very High Throughput Satellite Systems (VHTS). W-band spectrum is also expected to reduce the number of gateways required for the ground segment. System level studies indicate that the W-band feederlink requires transmitters capable to deliver RF power output in the range of 500 W over 5 GHz instantaneous frequency bandwidth. This activity will develop a W-band high-power amplifier. The main engineering tasks shall include the design and development of a partial prototype operating at 5GHz instantaneous bandwidth with an efficiency in the area of 30% and an output power of 500W as a minimum.Footnote: On Delegation Request activities will only be initiated on the explicit request of at least one National Delegation.
