The objective of this activity is to design, develop and publish a database that provides relevant statistical data for the design of tracking systems for mobile satellite terminals.

This project encompassed the commercial development of new terminal IDU hardware and new hub Forward Link System and Return Link System hardware capable of supporting a comprehensive implementation of “DVB-RCS Next Generation” standards.

The goal of the Altobridge solution is to provide GSM services in a number of deployments using efficient use of satellite bandwidth through the AltoBridge patented Call handling Model and Signalling Encoding Scheme.

The THAUMAS initiative (Tailored and Harmonised satcom for ATM Uses, Maximising re-use of Aero SwiftBroadband) has been defined in line with the Artes 10 objectives. Starting from the well proven SwiftBroadband technology, the project will define the upgrades needed to offer ATM services. The resulting system, called SB-S (SwiftBroadband-Safety) will be designed for compliance with stringent services and applications defined in the frame of the SESAR programme.

THAUMAS will define and start the validation of the upgrades to SwiftBroadband required to achieve Continental Safety Services as a complement to the future terrestrial ATM services being developed by the SESAR programme.

The objective of this project is to design, manufacture and qualify an EM and PFM of low power conditioning unit for Telecom satellite. This PCU is targeted to address Satellite market with up to 4.2 kW power capabilities.

For almost thirty years from now, the Cospas-Sarsat worldwide Search and Rescue satellite system has been in operation, rescuing more than 26 000 distress victims. The scope in the Cospas-Sarsat Antennas project is to develop a body-worn antenna, suitable to be integrated into a life vest platform together with a commercial Cospas-Sarsat distress transmitter.

The project ISIDE intends to develop,
implement and validate a satellite based system of NCinema (N for networked), oriented at providing a range
of services and applications in the field of D- (Digital)
and E- (Electronic) Cinema. Over a period of two years,
the project realises a permanent validation platform for N-Cinema, in order to cover the complete representation
of the relevant service value chains. The objective will
be to validate and promote different forms of
exploitation of the theatres, ranging from featuring
digital movies, digital advertising and alternative
contents to live events, shows in virtual reality and
interactive applications.

The work to be performed in this project will produce a series of white papers describing provision of efficient networking and MAC techniques that satisfy key commercial requirements for the satellite interactive network.

This study aims to clarify the demand for standardisation in network operations, in particular in relation to network performance monitoring. We want to analyse the typical (Key) Performance Indicators (KPIs) used in network operations and troubleshooting processes.

The study aims at assessing and analysing the benefits of introducing on-board satellite payload flexibility with respect to the more classical design of satellite payloads. The non-uniform traffic demand distribution and the uncertainty of the evolution of the traffic demand distribution during the satellite lifetime are the main reasons to introduce on-board flexibility.

The objective of this study is to make a commercial assessment of the two-way satellite broadband systems and to identify which areas of development and standardisation will improve the two-way satellite broadband business globally.
This activity has been awarded to two different consortiums who are developing the activity simultaneously.

The objective of this activity was to perform research and development on next-generation GNSS receivers. More specifically, this meant that existing products were enhanced and new products were developed. The rationale behind this was to increase the market share of Septentrio in the market of professional GNSS receivers.

The primary goal of this project is to develop a detailed knowledge base with respect to the two-way satellite broadband market which will be used by ESA and its industry partners to make decisions about the evolution of various satellite communication technologies and standards.

This study fits into an overall strategic plan to establish linearised amplifier products that have applications in larger systems as well as being ‘stand-alone´ developments. The study will review three candidate linearising techniques which can be subsequently used in the development of a standalone, linearised High Power Amplifier (HPA) for the AVSAT terminals market.

The primary product is a low noise amplifier (LNA) for K band SATCOM (18-26 GHz) ground terminals which will have two operating modes: normal and turbo. The secondary product is a standard uncooled LNA for K band SATCOM ground terminals.

This project will provide a comprehensive analysis of the current situation of the ICT sector and terrestrial networks in Africa. It will provide an assessment of the technical and financial benefits that a multiple spot beam like satellite infrastructure could bring, including satellite system detailed design and programmatic aspects.

With the aim of establishing a well-informed basis for decisions regarding future priorities in the Danish participation in the ARTES program the overall objective of this study is to perform a detailed survey and business analysis of the core competencies, priorities and expectations in the Danish industry within ARTES.

The objective of the Ka-Band Multibeam Antenna Development Study program is to advance MDAs existing Ka-band multibeam antenna designs and enable the development of new technologies that will have significant cost, performance and functional advantages over past technologies.

The project target is the development of a DVB-SH demodulator compliant with DVB-SH standard.

The benefits of this study are to gain transparency of the actual satellite M2M market. This study will then provide recommendations about the most promising development paths for satellite to participate in the growing M2M market.

The main objective was to design, manufacture and qualify an L-Band ONET and filters, and to have a complete assembly fully qualified.

The intention of the project was to produce and qualify a fully European triple junction solar cell, with a high efficiency of the sun light-to-current conversion, low temperature coefficients and excellent power-to-mass ratio, based on III-V compound semiconductor materials.

This study investigates optical technologies and techniques that could, in a reliable manner, enable high-data-rate optical links through the atmosphere. Scenarios of interest are bidirectional feeder links between ground and a GEO satellite.

This project addresses a range of issues relating to the continued evolution of the Generic Stream Encapsulation (GSE) protocol as a common transmission method for the second generation of DVB physical layer waveforms in an all-IP DVB world.

The objectives of the project are to develop C and Ku band RF units and to perform the associated industrialisation activities in order to improve the technical and cost competitiveness of units in the following product lines: Front end units (Receivers , Down Converters), LCAMP and C-band SSPAs, Filters, and TTC Receivers.

The aim of the project is to identify the improvements obtained by the introduction of GaN MMIC technology in terms of survivability and linearity of the RF chain. In the frame of this project, LNAs and Mixers have been designed and fabricated in order to fabricate 3 RF Front-Ends (RFFE).

There is strong interest in developing power-efficient solutions, in order to facilitate the deployment of interactive multimedia systems in the consumer market where the user terminal cost is of paramount importance.

Saft is developing within the frame of the ARTES 8 Alphabus contract a "high specific energy cell". The purpose of this cell is to reduce the battery weight for the Alphabus satellite. The objective is to increase the specific energy by more than 25% of the existing VES140 cell. The specific energy target for the VES180 is 170 Wh/kg.

The objective of the contract is to develop and test an elegant breadboard of an Active Pixel Sensor (APS) based star sensor, and to analyse the competitiveness of these sensors against existing CCD based star sensors.

To develop a compact size PSSR able to transfer the high power of coming large satellite platforms.Improved thermal design is foreseen and the possibility to use materials able to withstand higher temperatures will be investigated. All design choices will be evaluated while carefully considering their associated costs in order to reach a cost efficient product. Special attention in this regard will be given to the chosen production methods.

The objective of the project is to choose the insulating and conductive materials, the shapes, the dimensions and the means of interconnection of the Axon' bus bar in order to provide qualified technologies to be integrated in a complete power distribution system on @bus service module.

The main objective of the project is to end up with a European supplier for thin film solar cell technology for large platforms.

This project is devoted to the pre-development of Alphabus Central Tube (@CT) equipment, which belongs to the structure subsystem of the Alphabus spacecraft.

This project consists of two separate development efforts. The main objectives of AMG4.6 are to satisfy requirements from our existing customer base to increase the value proposition of the AMG system. LSF 2.0 builds on our initial release of the Local Switching product by improving its functionality.

The primary objective of this project is to conduct a study on "Scalable Video Coding Applications and Technologies for mobile satellite based hybrid networks". The activity will investigate the viability of integrating Scalable Video Coding (SVC) technologies over DVB-SH networks and disseminate its findings to relevant fora such as DVB TM-SSP, DVB TM-CBMS, or DVB TM-AVC.

This project consists of two separate development efforts. The main objectives of AMG4.6 were to satisfy requirements from our existing customer base to increase the value proposition of the AMG system. LSF 2.1 builds on our initial release of the Local Switching product by improving its functionality.

3D@SAT will review and investigate the potential of future 3D Multiview / Free viewpoint Video technologies, build up a simulation system for 3D services over satellite and disseminate its findings to relevant fora such as DVB 3D-SM, DVB TM-AVC, ITU-T/VCEG, ISO/MPEG, SMPTE, 3D@Home, etc.
